Chef Steve created Two Step Restaurant and Cantina to bring two of his greatest loves together, Texas bar-b-que and authentic margaritas. True to his roots, you will find the Texas inspired cuisine and world-class margaritas are prepared with the greatest of care, the freshest of ingredients and in that traditional down-home way that will make any true Texan proud.

Two Step Restaurant and Cantina is constructed from a homestead originally built in the 1850s by early American pioneers and German immigrants, Philipp and Carolina (Braun) Ruempel. Philipp and Carolina were among the earliest settlers of Helotes, Texas. After marrying in 1869 they raised ten children in the Ruempel homestead and remained there for the rest of their lives. The restaurant is constructed from what originally functioned as a house and barn.

Type of Meals Served:

Chef Steve’s Texas inspired cuisine revolves around oak smoked meats sold by the pound including fatty or lean brisket, loaded beef ribs, pork chops, and sausage.

The menu is rounded out with Texas favorites such as chicken fried ribeye, fried catfish, macaroni and cheese, mashed potatoes with gravy and homemade pies.

The Cantina specializes in perfecting the traditional margarita. A margarita purist, Chef Steve believes world-class margaritas require only three ingredients: premium tequila, premium orange liqueur and FRESH lime juice. An ample tequila selection includes blancos, anejos and reposados from the finest tequila producers of Mexico.

In addition to a variety of local, domestic and Mexican beers available by the bottle or bucket, the cantina also has a revolving selection of draft beers to choose from.
