Description:
Bahia Azul is located in the space that formerly housed Apple Annie's and The Pomegranate. The space bears little resemblance to its predecessors, thanks to deep blue walls and wave neon lighting. Childhood friends Adrian Bauelos and chef Sergio Herrera have teamed up to create this restaurant; a bar and outdoor patio seating is planned. This isn't your typical Mexican restaurant; fish and seafood are the stars of the menu.
The Nayarit-style Mexican seafood may be a new concept to San Antonians. Along with chips and a green salsa, ceviche and crackers are offered after customers are seated. Seafood cocktails, ceviches, shrimp and fish tacos, and beef brochette share menu space with shrimp and fish soups, boiled shrimp, carnitas and arrachera Sarandeada. Shrimp nachos were a lunch favorite, as were tangy shrimp enchiladas and empanadas. The owner tells us that The Alley Torte stuffed with chicken and melted cheese in a tomato-based salsa is a favorite. The dinner menu is broad and relatively complex; we're looking forward to exploring further, including the shrimp aguachile.
